Dr Alba Xifra-Porxas

Senior Technician in Human Sciences (Psychology)

Alba Xifra-Porxas joined the School of Human Sciences as a Senior Technician in August 2020. Prior to this, Alba obtained her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from McGill University (Canada), and her BEng/MEng in Telecommunications Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain).

Her responsibilities include providing technical expertise to support research within the School, as well as maintaining and developing specialist laboratory equipment and software (e.g. EEG, TMS). She also provides support for coding and building experimental paradigms, and supports teaching related to research methods and statistics.

Research / Scholarly interests

Alba’s research interests are highly interdisciplinary, spanning fields such as engineering, neuroscience and psychology. She has a particular interest in developing methods to advance neuroscience research combining multimodal neuroimaging (e.g. M/EEG, functional MRI) and signal processing techniques. For instance, her PhD examined the effects of physiological processes such as cardiac and respiratory activity on estimates of large-scale brain networks.
